DIRECT ELASTIC SUSPENSION
The direct elastic suspension has the purpose of not allowing a machine to transmit the vibrations to the support base. The anti-vibration does not prevent the vibration of the machinery but reduces its transmission to the external environment.
Unlike a rigid suspension that transmits vibrations, the direct elastic suspension absorbs important oscillation amplitudes. It is as if the machinery were released from its fixed support.
Think, for example, of the "floating engine" of cars. To reduce the transmission of vibrations to the vehicle chassis and passengers, the engine is mounted on an elastic suspension to "absorb" the most important trips under the bonnet.
If important amplitudes can not be tolerated the only way to reduce them, without losing the effectiveness of the suspension, is to increase the ballasting (the suspended mass). Given a certain stress, the amplitudes are inversely proportional to the mass.
The most appropriate intervention is to rigidly fix the machinery on a heavy frame or base and "suspend" the whole. Increasing the suspended mass allows a good isolation from vibrations and slight oscillations of the suspended unit.

INDIRECT ELASTIC SUSPENSION
The indirect elastic suspension is the type of antivibration that protects a machine from the vibrations of the surrounding environment. The use of an anti-vibration device that guarantees vibration isolation is always valid. The oscillation amplitudes of the support points are absorbed by the anti-vibration mounts.
We have imagined that the machinery is connected to the outside only through the anti-vibration. But is not so.
Infact, there are other connections such as supply pipes, drain pipes, cooling pipes, electric cables, remote controls, etc.
It must be ensured that the connection with the outside is sufficiently elastic and takes into account the relative movements of the aforementioned connections in order to avoid breakage, not to alter the vibratory insulation by introducing additional stiffness and not transmitting the vibrations directly through these connections. that we have worried about eliminating at other points.
Vibratory isolation attenuates the transmission of vibrations but does not prevent the machinery from moving; however, it is important to check that you have left enough space in each direction to allow the machine to move freely.
DETERMINATION OF AN ELASTIC SUSPENSION
In order to determine an elastic suspension it is essential to know precisely the main characteristics of the machinery to be insulated. It is useful to know the following information:
where is its center of gravity;
where are the fixing points;
what are the moments of inertia of the machinery.
